RA Winter’s Review: 4.5-Stars

Get Glad by Harry Hoover has some interesting tidbits.

Find your purpose was one that resonated through me. Without a purpose in our lives, how do we know if we attain happiness? He gives an example from Alice in Wonderland. Alice comes to the Cheshire Cat, and asked him which way does she go? And he asks, ‘Where are you going?’ and her response is, ‘I don’t know’. His answer is dead on, ‘Then it doesn’t matter.’

Mr. Hoover goes on and gives us nine questions to ask, to help you find your purpose. You may know your answers in a split second, you may have to think about it but answer them. Life will be a lot clearer after you do.

The author goes on, in a logical step by step to help you figure out what it is that isn’t making you happy and was is. Pay close attention to this, you may find people or things that just aren’t as you expect.

Mr. Hoover uses common sense and some science to back up his Get Glad book. It’s an interesting read, with a logical presentation. Give it some thought.

Well written with lots of ideas.

Sherry Terry’s Review: 4-Stars

Get Glad: Your Practical Guide To A Happier Life by Harry Hoover is a good book with some great ideas for getting happier and staying happier. I thought the idea of taking stock of what you are grateful for every day is good, and I do plan to add that to my life. I also liked the idea of projecting positive energy with positive thoughts. I agree that the only way to bring about the success and happiness you desire is to shake off the negative thoughts of failure and replace them with positive thoughts of succeeding.

For me, the book had a few hiccups. I didn’t care for the way the lists were formatted, especially the gratitude list of 500 words. Harry Hoover did his due diligence with research and the links to articles and books was a good addition, but I think the bibliography would serve better all together at the end of the book instead of at the end of the individual pages. I felt like this book read as a required reading for a class or a pamphlet with a seminar. Lots of statistics and numbers made it feel like an assignment.

I did find some good ways to bring more happiness into my life, and I will be implementing some of the ideas from Get Glad: Your Practical Guide To A Happier Life.
